We’ve had a great week exploring the new centres in our classroom! The Paint Studio has been a hit, and the students have been exploring colour mixing and using new mediums to express themselves. I brought in some Hex Bugs, and the excitement can hardly be contained as the students make obstacle courses, homes, and pathways for these little machines to climb through and vibrate along! Both of these centres have a student maximum, so the children have been practicing turn-taking, patience, and kindness.

In Language Arts, we have continued to master the letter names and sounds for S, A, T, P, I, N, M, and F, along with the sight words “the,” “and,” “I,” and “a.” We continue to review the purpose of a period when we are reading. We played a very exciting Mystery Word game where we used the beginning sounds of each picture to create a new word and then saw a funny GIF of the word. On our slide deck, there was a dancing cat, an excited dog, a cup that stirred itself, a karate pen, and more. We will continue to play Mystery Word this upcoming week, as it was highly engaging.

In Math, we continue to practice number formation, comparing numbers, subitizing, and one-to-one correspondence. We have also been exploring how a ten frame can help us recognize amounts.

We had a very special event where we got together with the Grade 2s in Ms. VanMaarion’s class, and they showed us how to play some math games on the Chromebooks! What a fun way to reinforce our learning and build connections across grades.

In Science, we have been talking about how objects move (up, down, curves, circles, back and forth, zigzag, fast, slow, etc.) and have been using music to explore movement with scarves and ribbons.

Thank you so much for sharing your little people with me every day—we are having the best time!
