Week of March 16
Dear Kindergarten Families, I hope everyone has been enjoying Spring Break, even though the weather was not as warm and sunny as we might have hoped. I was wishing for a bit more sunshine too. The week before the break was a very busy one. We filled it with fun and learning each day. On Monday, we celebrated the 100th day of school. We counted all the way to 100, and we danced and jumped for 100 seconds. We rolled and stacked 100 cups, and this game stayed out for students to

Another great week is in the books because our Kinders rocked it! The highlight this week was Pizza Day. We went through the steps of making a pizza and talked about our favorite toppings. Cheese was the big winner in both classes. The students got their hands busy grating cheese, spreading sauce, and stretching the dough. We also borrowed rhythm sticks from Mrs. Holloboff and followed along to the Mama Mia song while pretending to make pizzas with our sticks. The kids loved

We had a busy and exciting week in Kindergarten filled with learning, games, and exploration! Ok there are a ton of photos this week! I just couldn't decide which ones not to include! In Math , we practiced our number skills in several fun ways. One of the class favorites was Musical Tables . While the music played, we moved around the room, and when it stopped we hurried to a table and wrote down numbers from 0–4 . We also continued practicing the concepts of most and least

Week of Feb 23rd.
We had a great week back after the break! Though tired, the kids were excited to see their friends and explore the new items in the classroom. We've been having an exciting time in L.A exploring how letters and sounds come together to make words. We've started writing in our LA journal and are beginning to understand that a sentence is a group of words that start with an uppercase and end with a period. We've been learning that a period means we need to stop. Our letter forma

Valentine’s Week was filled with love and meaningful learning! We joined Ms. Yvonne’s class to explore the concept of Respect through the FNMI teachings. In these teachings, Respect is represented by the Buffalo (Bison). For a very long time, people relied on the buffalo for food, clothing, shelter, and art. They showed respect by using every part carefully and wasting nothing. We discussed what respect looks like in our classroom. Respect means: Being kind to yourself and

We’ve had a great week exploring the new centres in our classroom! The Paint Studio has been a hit, and the students have been exploring colour mixing and using new mediums to express themselves. I brought in some Hex Bugs, and the excitement can hardly be contained as the students make obstacle courses, homes, and pathways for these little machines to climb through and vibrate along! Both of these centres have a student maximum, so the children have been practicing turn-taki

Week of Jan 26
The last week of January went off without a hitch and we were blessed with some fairly great weather as well! We read the book "What if I had Animal Hair?" and then made portraits of ourselves with wild and crazy hair. We had some guest readers come in for Family Literacy Day to read us some special books and continue our love of reading and learning. We continued learning and practicing our sight words "the, and, I, a" and played four corners: sight word edition to help us

We had such a full, fun, and exciting week in kindergarten, and the students were busy learning, creating, and playing every single day! In Language Arts, we continued building our literacy skills by recognizing letter names and sounds . We worked through our UFLI program, focusing on the letter sounds /a/, /m/, /s/, and /t/ . We also introduced a brand-new writing convention, the period . The students learned that a period tells us to stop and take a breath, which was a big

We had a great start to our week as we made puffy paint melted snowman based off the book "Sneezy the Snowman." The students got to help make the puffy paint which is equal parts white glue and shaving cream. We had a blast mixing this together and then, because it was difficult to spread with a brush, we actually got to spread it around and make melted snowmen with our hands. We continued with a shaving cream theme and on Tuesday we made the letter 8 in shaving cream. This p

We welcomed students back with open arms and smiling faces this week! It was so great to have all the kids back in the classroom, seeing friends, and sharing what they did over the break. In the classroom we introduced our new EA Ms. Mascha who has been a lovely addition to our space and has made some really amazing connections with the students already. We discussed what makes a good leader and classroom friend and played a game of "copy cat," it has a fun little chant that

We started the week with finishing up our parent gifts, making cards, and picking out bows. We hope you enjoy these hand-crafted gifts as much as the students enjoyed making them! We also got to spend some time at the IREC Christmas market, picking out a special surprise for a very important person in our lives, it was a hard choice but the students did wonderfully! I am so proud of their behaviour this week, despite it being such a busy and exciting time, both classes have

We started out this week with some AMAZING singing from our Kindergarten classes! The Kinder concert was filled with familiar faces to cheer and clap for our performances. While there were a few nervous tears, the children said they liked seeing their families in the school. I don't have any photos of the concert, if you have some you would like to share, please email them to me at kelcie.fercho@wolfcreek.ab.ca . We have been practicing our fine motor movements to create hori

What a joyous and festive week it has been in our classroom! Everywhere we turned, there was something exciting, sparkly, or silly happening, and the students were full of smiles. Many of the students had Elf of the Shelves, which made an appearance this week, so our morning whole group was full of the names of their elves and silly things their elves did. We also talked about how some houses don't have Elf on the Shelf, for example Ms. Kel-Cie did not ask Santa to bring my

I want to thank all of you for coming to Parent Teacher interviews! It was wonderful to meet you again as our first introductions were so short. We had a great week playing in the snow! A few of the older kids had made some giant snowballs for us to push around during our daily recess and we had great time using our big muscles to move these in between the playground equipment. Unfortunately they were to heavy to lift to make a snowman but that didn't stop us from all working

It was a jam packed week full of lots of laughter and experiences. We had a few safety presentations this week including Farm Safety and Bus Safety. For Bus Safety we actually got to ride on one of our yellow school busses while our driver, Ben, took us around the town! There was lots of exclamations about "Hey! my house is that way!" and "My sister goes that that school!" We finished up our ABC bootcamp on Tuesday and celebrated by having a PJ and Movie party with Ms. Yvonne

We kicked off our short week with a special visitor—our Bulldog Buddy, Rowan! He’ll be joining our morning class every Wednesday until Christmas, and we can’t wait to see him each week. In the afternoon, our class got creative with a visit from our Artist in Residence, Megan. She guided the students through a fun printmaking activity, and everyone had a blast experimenting with her materials and making their very own “stamps.” The morning class participated in this last week.

I have to say—I missed all of you over the strike, and it has been so wonderful to see the beautiful, eager faces back in the classroom this week. We’ve had such a fun and exciting few days, filled with games, learning, and of course, a little bit of Halloween magic! We kicked the week off with a fun game called True or Trick . Students had to decide if a statement was true (stand up) or a trick (sit down). They did an amazing job listening carefully and participating, and w
