Hello Families!

We had a very exciting week working on our sight words. We played a sight word search and find game with our Grade 2 buddies and the AM class. Students had a great time moving around the school looking for their Kindergarten sight word. At the same time, the Grade 2 students were searching for and writing their own sight words. Everyone worked together, helped each other, and had fun learning. At the end of the game, students enjoyed a small treat and spent time together in centres. The PM class is looking forward to having their turn this week.

In math, we have been learning how to measure using non standard objects. Right now we are using blocks to measure different items. We went outside around the school and used our blocks to measure things we found. First we looked for objects that were 2 blocks long, then 5 blocks, and then 10 blocks. It was fun to compare sizes and see what was longer or shorter. Learning outside always makes math more exciting.

We also played some whole group games this week to help us practice our sight words. These games helped us learn while moving and working together. We had a special visit from our Grade 9 students who came to play small group games with us. The games combined math and language arts learning and gave us a chance to work with older students in a fun and supportive way.

To finish our short three day week, we had a special celebration for our Kindergarten graduation photos. We had a glow stick dance party, a picnic with our Kindergarten friends from next door, a short movie, and some extra outdoor play time. It was a wonderful way to celebrate all of our hard work this year.
