We had a great week back after the break! Though tired, the kids were excited to see their friends and explore the new items in the classroom.

We've been having an exciting time in L.A exploring how letters and sounds come together to make words. We've started writing in our LA journal and are beginning to understand that a sentence is a group of words that start with an uppercase and end with a period. We've been learning that a period means we need to stop. Our letter formation is improving every day, keep practicing at home as well and your student will be grade 1 ready in no time! We've been learning about our new sight word: is and continuing to practice remembering our previous sight words: the, and, a, I.

In math we have continued to explore part-part-whole. We've been playing some whole group games such as organizing students into part-part-whole. For example we can organize 3 students into 2 girls and 1 boy, 3 girls and 0 boys, 3 boys and 0 girls, 2 boys and 1 girl, etc. We also have been using our math blocks to help us visualize how different numbers can be formed.

We loved pink shirt day and worked really hard on being kind to everyone and our environment. The morning class got to attend the Pink Shirt Day assembly and they did amazing! We finished up with some delicious craft donuts where we "sprinkled" kindness everywhere.

Both classes had gym this week and the balls and bean bags were flying about as we learned more about underhand throws. Ms. Sorenson is in for Ms. Yvonne and she has been teaching us some great new activities in gym.

Our home reading program is well underway. If you have any questions or concerns about this please reach out to me. I tried to combine 2 write ups into 1 but truthfully I didn't do a good job making the program clear. I've been enjoying seeing the growth in the books the students are taking out.

Thanks again for letting me enjoy your darling children! I am looking forward to March and some nice weather. In April, May, and June there will be some volunteer opportunities as we begin to explore our community, take some field trips, and spend some time reading together. Please keep an eye out for these opportunities.
