The last week of January went off without a hitch and we were blessed with some fairly great weather as well!
We read the book "What if I had Animal Hair?" and then made portraits of ourselves with wild and crazy hair. We had some guest readers come in for Family Literacy Day to read us some special books and continue our love of reading and learning. We continued learning and practicing our sight words "the, and, I, a" and played four corners: sight word edition to help us reinforce this learning.
In math we once again played "dice wars" with a friend reinforcing 1:1 correspondence, subitizing, writing numerals, and comparing quantities.
We played outside and took advantage of the warmer weather that came our way this week and we talked about how animals keep warm, following it up with a fun animal blubber and fat experiment. For our experiment, everyone tried on the "fat glove" and put their hand into a bowl of ice. We compared the hand with the glove and the hand without the glove to see which stayed warmer. We discussed how fat and fur helps animals stay warm in the winter which is why they don't need a winter coat. The kids really loved this and everyone had a second round.
