Dear Kindergarten Families,

I hope everyone has been enjoying Spring Break, even though the weather was not as warm and sunny as we might have hoped. I was wishing for a bit more sunshine too.

The week before the break was a very busy one. We filled it with fun and learning each day.

On Monday, we celebrated the 100th day of school. We counted all the way to 100, and we danced and jumped for 100 seconds. We rolled and stacked 100 cups, and this game stayed out for students to enjoy later. We used our detective eyes to find the number 100 in many different ways. We also played a board game called Race to 100 and practiced finding missing numbers.

On Tuesday, we celebrated St. Patricks Day. There was so much green in our classroom. Way to go, Kindergarten, for dressing up. We gave ourselves silly leprechaun names for the day and some of them were extra hilarious! We became scientists and watched our Walking Rainbow. We used three cups of color and watched as they slowly made all the colors of the rainbow. First, we made predictions, and then we checked on our rainbow during the day. We also played a fun game where a sneaky leprechaun took items from our tray and we had to guess what was missing. We sorted and graphed Lucky Charms and talked about our favorite marshmallows.

On Wednesday, we played hockey in the gym with the Bulldogs. We love when community members come to visit us. This connects to our Social Studies learning. The Bulldogs gave autographs and talked with the children. Many students were excited to share that they play hockey too. We practiced our sight word “as” and wrote our Star Student’s name. We also made beautiful rainbow art with a pot of gold and practiced rhyming words.

On Thursday, the morning class had a special visit from some puppies and kittens from Hope Lives Here animal rescue. We talked about what animals need, like food, water, shelter, love, and walks. We also talked about things they want, like toys and treats, some students even said bacon and sleeping on the bed, which made us laugh. We reviewed our letters and sounds and played a fun jumping game with simple CVC words. Keep practicing letter sounds and blending them into CVC words at home, the kids are doing really great at this at school.

On Friday, we had a sock hop in the gym. Students wore fun socks and pajamas and we danced the day away for 40 minutes of non-stop grooving!. We practiced the letter sound /d/ and enjoyed learning centers like Mystery Letter and Treasure Hunt. We had a great show and tell surprise of a very well behaved family pet! I wish we could have a class mascot because Miles the dog might be the one! We also spent time outside whenever we could. It truly felt like the best week ever.

I am looking forward to seeing everyone’s smiling faces on Monday, March 30.

Warmly,

Kel-Cie Fercho
