Another great week is in the books because our Kinders rocked it!
The highlight this week was Pizza Day. We went through the steps of making a pizza and talked about our favorite toppings. Cheese was the big winner in both classes. The students got their hands busy grating cheese, spreading sauce, and stretching the dough. We also borrowed rhythm sticks from Mrs. Holloboff and followed along to the Mama Mia song while pretending to make pizzas with our sticks. The kids loved it. We tried it again at super fast speed and then at very slow speed. For the big finish, I changed the speed while they were playing so it went fast, medium, slow, and fast again. This brought lots of laughter.
We also made shamrock art for St. Patrick’s Day. Students practiced tracing and cutting while creating their shamrocks. We enjoyed lots of fun time outside as well.
In Language Arts we practiced writing a sentence in our journals and sounding out new words. We focused on the new sight word “as” and added the /d/ sound to our sound wall.
In Math we practiced writing and recognizing numbers using musical tables. We played math games where we ordered ourselves from greatest to least. We also practiced recognizing and counting numbers with a digital activity from Topmarks. Of course, we counted lots of our favorite pizza toppings too.
It was a busy and joyful week full of learning, laughter, and creativity.
Throughout the week we talked about natural and manmade objects and how we can tell the difference and touched on healthy (food we should eat a lot of) and unhealthy food (food we should eat sometimes) with a hilarious book called "Piranha's Don't Eat Banana's." The Grade 9 leadership class also joined us to play some fun games with the kids!
I am very proud of how hard the students worked and how kind they were to each other. I hope everyone has a wonderful week ahead!
