We started out this week with some AMAZING singing from our Kindergarten classes! The Kinder concert was filled with familiar faces to cheer and clap for our performances. While there were a few nervous tears, the children said they liked seeing their families in the school. I don't have any photos of the concert, if you have some you would like to share, please email them to me at kelcie.fercho@wolfcreek.ab.ca.
We have been practicing our fine motor movements to create horizontal, vertical, and diagonal lines and putting those lines together to make shapes, numbers, and letters. The diagonal line has been tricky for some students so keep practicing at home. Every week we practice writing the Star Students name and every week I continue to be impressed at how far the students have come in their letter writing abilities. I can tell that lots of support is happening outside of school and I am so grateful to families for taking an active role in their child's success.
We had a blast throwing paper snowballs for our letter snowball fight. This is a great game you can play at home as well. Just get some white paper and write upper and lowercase letter on them, crumple them up into a ball, put on some fun Christmas music, and have a "snowball fight" until you pause the music. Once the music is paused your child opens the "snowball" and tells you the letter name and the sound it makes, then you start the music and go again!
We made some glittery Christmas Trees in Art where we also brought in some math concepts as the students needed to make their tree go from longest to shortest. This was great for their scissor skills, visualizing math concepts, and having a lot of fun with glitter. Watch for this glittery artwork to come home sometime this week.
Ms. Brookelyn was our show and tell star this week as we had an absence, so she got her horse halter from her car and told us all about what a halter does, how horses wear it, and showed us pictures of her horses on her phone. The kids were very interested in how such a small "leash" can guide such a large animal around.
Speaking on of animals, we had a blast this week learning about how animals move (jumping, crawling, climbing, swimming, running, walking), the speed in which animals move (fast and slow), and why animals move (to find shelter, food and water, friends and family, to keep safe, and to play). We moved our own bodies like animals with Jack Hartman and Danny Go, and practiced moving like different animals as we left the classroom to get ready for home. Some of the student chose to move like a sllooooowwww sloth to get ready and boy did they do a great job imitating that animal!
Finally we got to spend some time in Ms. Yvonnes classroom as the gym was closed for the Christmas Concert. We did some Holiday Yoga and explored all her centres with our Kindergarten friends.
We are finishing up a very special present for families to put under their trees. This present will come home next week, no peeking!
Have a safe and warm weekend.
