Our week started off with our Artist in Residence joining our morning class. Our artist, Megan, instructed the class in printmaking techniques, including getting to make our very own prints! Our afternoon class gets to explore this experience on Wednesday November 12th so be sure to ask your little student all about it!
We started our Star Student weeks with much excitement as everyone can't wait for their turn! We wrote our classmates name and explored some of their favorite things, leading into the discussion about what makes us the same and what makes us different. Gaining a better understanding of our likes, dislikes, and interests is part of our Kindergarten Social Studies curriculum.
The morning class has been exploring the magnetic sticks in a variety of ways and had an amazing inquiry question "Do we have enough to make it from the far table in our classroom to our recess door?" These budding little scientists problem solved their way into almost making it by adding the magnetic balls to the end and making straighter paths. However we decided that I better ask Santa for some more sticks because we ran out before we could make it, but we were SO CLOSE!
We have been exploring our 5 senses all week. We did a spooky sound activity for the sense of hearing, looked through some old school kaleidoscopes for the sense of sight, and smelled some interesting smells, for sense of smell. It was funny to listen to many of the kids say that the lemon smell was "floor cleaner" and the mint was "my mom's tea!" We will be continuing on with sense of touch and sense of taste in the coming days.
We had many good discussions this week around Remembrance day and the hope for peace, we talked about how feeling safe is important, and that many men and women fought for our safety. We discussed how the poppy is a symbol of that peace and sacrifice. We created a beautiful craft and attended our very first assembly. Our class did amazing and I am very proud of them.
It is a short week for Nov 12-14. Information on Parent Teacher interviews will be released by the office on Wednesday Nov 12. Stay happy and healthy Kinder families.
